QME Buzz: Changes in QME Regulations

Aug 08, 2024

Dana Livingstone-Lopez and Sherry German are the principals of TeachCE, Inc., DWC Education Provider 470 (CE) and DWC Education Provider 2 (Disability Evaluation Report Writing).

We have been an approved education provider for QMEs since 1996 (formerly, Livingstone-Lopez Consulting, Inc.).

Educational Updates for the QME are effective now!

The world of Qualified Medical Evaluators (QME) has experienced some significant updates. For QME's applying for reappointment on or after April 1, 2026, the bar for continuing education was raised.  Doctor's will need to complete 16 hours of targeted continuing education, a step up from the current 12-hour requirement. These hours must cover specific categories, detailed on our "Course Library" page for easy reference (click on Browse by Category.)

Enhanced Disability Evaluation Report Writing Course

You must attend a report writing course prior to being appointed as a QME but are not required to take the course prior to the QME examination.  You may wish to complete this ahead of your exam, however, as the course covers state regulations, case law, medical legal report components, anti-bias, and more.

Additionally, the revamping of the Disability Evaluation Report Writing Course requirements for onboarding QMEs includes newly mandated elements and that at least 6 of the 16-hour curriculum (previously 12 hours) are delivered live, whether virtually or in-person.

The legislation mandating these Report Writing Course changes became effective on April 1, 2024.  At TeachCE, Inc., we've been proactive in adapting our offerings to meet these new standards.  This ensures you will be fully equipped to navigate the new requirements and marks our ongoing commitment to excellence and professional development in the QME community.
